Overview
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) was established on 10 January 1997 and is a leading private university in Malaysia. The campus is built on a 400 hectare (1,000 acres) site strategically located at Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia. The university is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), the national oil and gas company of Malaysia. UTP offers a wide range of industry-relevant engineering, science and technology programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It aims to produce well-rounded graduates with excellent leadership qualities and communication abilities. The university conducts extensive research activities in collaboration with PETRONAS and other institutions and industries, locally and abroad, on six research focus and niche areas. They are self-sustainable building, transport infrastructure, health analytics, hydrocarbon recovery, contaminant management and autonomous system. UTP has produced more than 15,000 graduates and currently has an enrolment of over 1,200 foundation students, 6,000 undergraduates and 1,200 postgraduates from more than 60 countries around the world.

Laboratory
UTP provides 80 laboratories for undergraduate courses and up to 80 research labs for postgraduate courses. All labs are ISO certified.
Sports
UTP supports students’ participation in sports, as it enriches the learning experience and promotes leadership and teamwork
Library
Fondly nicknamed as IRC, the library has an open display of books in four-storey high shelves, storing more than 200,000 book titles and materials.
Gymnasium
UTP provides a complete gymnasium for students’ fitness related activities, operating 7-days a week excluding public holidays.
Swimming Pool
Students have full access to UTP’s swimming facility, where they are able to enjoy a 25-meter swimming pool among an array of other physical fitness and co-curricular activities.
Accommodation
The Residential Village is able to accommodate 100% of the total student population once fully completed, and will feature community-shared facilities comprising of administration, shops, launderette and dining area.
Cafeteria
UTP has 14 cafeterias operating at strategic locations around campus, serving a variety of affordable local and international food selections.
Clubs & Societies
Inspiring through innovation, our student-led clubs and societies are an accelerator for student development. With more than 80 clubs and societies to choose from, students get the opportunity to gain experience locally and abroad.
R&D Building
Home to 65 laboratories and offices, this four-storey high structure holds a total floor area of 21,225 square meters – accommodating up to 550 researchers and staff at any one time
Student Life
The International Students Unit (ISU) in particular provide services to the registered international students in the University at the Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels on the following matters:
Visa & Student Pass
- Providing service to matters pertaining to visa & immigration matters including processing new student pass application for new student and renewal of student pass for current student.
- Ensure the international students have a valid student pass to stay and study in UTP and to resolve any arising matters in relation to visa application and renewal.
- Ensure that all international students adhere to the rules and regulations imposed by the Immigration Department, EMGS and any other relevant authorities.
- Conduct engagement session when necessary between the relevant authorities and the international students
International Student Activities
- Conduct intercultural activities for the purpose of exposing the International students to the local culture.
- Providing an avenue for the international students to involve in registered clubs or societies so as to nature the spirit of integration amongst the local and international students.
- Liaison with the Embassies, Ambassadors, Country representative and other external parties for any activities in relations to the international students.
Welfare Related Matters

- Coordinate with the sponsorship parties on the preparation of the arrival of new international students to the University and Malaysia in general.
- Orientation session for the students in getting them to familiarise with the University’s life and surrounding.
- Coordinate with the Welfare Unit on matters related to insurance coverage for medical purposes.

Foundation in relevant field from a recognised institution
A-Level OR other equivalent qualification
Australian Matriculation programme i.e.

- Higher School Certificate (HSC), New South Wales
- Northern Territory Certificate Education (NTSE)
- Queensland Senior Certificate
- South Australian Certificate of Education
- Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE)
- Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
- Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE)
OR other equivalent qualification
Other equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government may also be considered.
International students must fulfill the following additional requirements:
- Application must be made using the final examination semester results
- Meet minimum English proficiency requirement of:
Minimum TEOFL iBT score of 60 OR IELTS score of 5.0 (Engineering Programs), 6.0 (Non-Engineering programs)
OR
Minimum MUET score of Band-3
OR
Official ‘English as the Medium of Instruction’ letter from previous institution

CENTRE FOR ADVANCED AND PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION (CAPE)
The Centre for Advanced and Professional Education or CAPE UTP was established in May 2016 to provide flexible post-bachelor degree opportunities by developing sustainable programmes and modules of professional short courses. CAPE aims to be the sought after partner to the industry by providing a platform for flexible learning to diverse learners and access to the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS’s intellectual resources.
Being in a well-situated spot of Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat, a 10-minute walk from KL Sentral, CAPE provides convenient access for the external stakeholders to the University’s research and educational resources. It also boasts an impressive and up-to-date collection of spaces available for hire. The office houses a classroom and 2 seminar rooms with the capacity to accommodate up to 32 pax each, a 20-pax telepresence meeting room, a 6-pax discussion room, an e-library and open office areas for the UTP and CAPE staff. All the rooms are equipped with projector, screens and writing glass. The classroom and seminar rooms are designed to meet the current pedagogical requirements with the state-of-the-art facilities.
