Chemerong Forest Reserve

Terengganu

Experienced trekkers and nature lovers should not miss an exhilarating hiking adventure at the Chemerong-Berembun-Langsir (CBL) track, located at Chemerong Forest Reserve, in Hulu Dungun, Terengganu.

A 27-kilometre trail from Chemerong Tropical Forest, which takes about two hours, will bring hikers to the first checkpoint – Chemerong Waterfall. The sight of water gushing down and pounding the rocks at the height of 1,214 feet (370 metres) at this beautiful serene waterfall truly makes the journey worthwhile.

Most of the hikers will opt for an adventurous hiking expedition that might take up to three days and two nights. Activities include ascending a 200-metre tall mountain, relaxing at Jeram Lesung Pool, swimming in a ‘fish spa’, and many more. Also, be prepared to be mesmerised by one of the biggest Chengal trees and the strange hollow trees inhabiting the area.

Nevertheless, the CBL trail is not for beginners. Hikers are advised to have at least 2,000 metres of hiking experience and ensure that they improve their fitness level before embarking on a CBL hiking adventure.

The best time to hike the CBL track is in May, June and July. During the monsoon season (late October to mid-March), hiking trip is not permitted due to heavy rain.

Entrance fee to Chemerong waterfall is RM2 per person. The management requires hikers to hike with a guide, regardless of their skill level. If you need some help carrying your hiking accessories, porters are available for hire.

Those who plan to camp need to apply for a camping permit at least three weeks prior to their chosen date. Camping at the provided campground will cost RM5 per person. Applications for camping permits need to be done during office hours, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Chemerong Forest Reserve office opens daily, including public holiday and weekend.
